Moving into your Phoenix, AZ Apartment

If you’re like most people, the thought of moving to a new can be exciting. The thought of the actual process of moving can be dreadful. You’ll have to worry about getting all of your items in your current apartment organized into boxes, renting a moving truck, finding friends who are willing to help and much more. Below is a list of ten tips to help make your phoenix rental move go smoothly…

1. Go Big: When you rent a moving van, it’s always best to secure one size larger rental than you think you’ll need. In other words if you have a one bedroom apartment, rent a van large enough for a two bedroom apartment. The last thing you want is to completely fill your van and then not have enough room for all of your items. This could cause you to make an additional trip back to your old residence.

2. Recruit an Army: Friends tend to disappear completely when moving day rolls around. It’s better to ask five or six friends to help with the big day and hope that two or three of them actually show up. This will work out much better than inviting only two or three people and having just one person show up. Remember, they are your friends and they will be doing a lot of hard work getting you in to your new Phoenix Rental, buy plenty of cold drinks and pizza or sandwiches for everyone; You want to keep your friends after your move.  Thank everyone by inviting them over after you are settled for a house warming party and to show off your new Phoenix rental.  When they are all jealous of your new apartment, don't forget about the resident referral program, that will go a long way toward recouping your moving expenses.

3. Buy Some Bins: Rather than deal with moving boxes and tape, go out and purchase some of those large stackable Rubbermaid bins. You’ll be surprised how much these bins will hold! Plus you can buy them in various colors to color code your items. Blue bins are for bedroom stuff, green bins are for kitchen stuff, etc. These bins will also come in handy for organizing your apartment later on.

4. Get Some Wardrobe Boxes: Rather than get all of your clothes wrinkled and crushed – buy some large wardrobe boxes and simply transfer your clothes right on their hangers. This will save you tons of time doing laundry and ironing. You can also buy rolling wardrobes, these will make it easier for you to move stuff around until you are settled in and provide a little extra hanger space in the future if you need it.

5. Wrap the Tube: The last thing you want is your flat screen plasma or LCD television getting damaged on moving day, you won't be able to enjoy all of the great digital cable and pay-per-view from Cox. You can purchase special boxes made especially for large televisions. You’ll want to wrap the television with a blanket before placing it in the box.  It’s a good idea to transfer this box separately in your personal car or SUV if you have the space.  This will eliminate the risk of your television getting crushed by the other items that are loaded in the moving van.  Remember televisions can be heavy and unwieldy, we have seen a beautiful television or two play pinball down a flight of stairs. Consider using a professional mover if you have a heavy television set.

6. Use Your Towels as Padding: When packing glassware and fragile items, you can wrap them in clothing or towels to protect them from breakage. The best way to do this is to layer a piece of clothing or towel in between each item. The goal is to never have to pieces of glass or fragile material touching each other inside the box or bin.  You will be saving the environment by not wasting bubble wrap and paper and you'll move two things at a time.

7. Say Hello Dolly: For larger items, save your back and the back’s of your fellow movers and use a furniture dolly to get large items into your apartment. Most van rental places will provide you will a furniture dolly for a nominal charge. Make sure the dolly that you rent has a rolling section on the backside that allows you to let larger items glide down stairs if you chose a second floor apartment.

8. Switch the Utilities Early: Be sure a call ahead to switch your electricity, gas and major utilities for your apartment. The last thing you want to be doing is carrying boxes in a boiling hot phoenix apartment with no air conditioning or trying to find your way in the dark. It’s best to have your utilities overlap for one day so that they are on at both your old residence and your new home while you are moving.  In addition, Boulder Creek Apartments, as well as many other communities require

9. Pack your urgent items in one box: It’s best to allocate one box to your urgent items. Things happen and perhaps your move will not go as quickly as the movers promised, but if your urgent items are all in one or two boxes, you will know where to look.

10. Forward the Mail: Make sure you fill out a change of address form to have the mail from your old residence forwarded your new house or apartment. Remember that after six months of forwarding the post office will no longer forward your mail. This means that you must update your address with your friends or anyone who might be sending you important mail.  Also, this helps avoid mix ups with the postal service delivering mail to your new apartment.
