Bike To Phoenix Light Rail
Tuesday, November 03 2009 16:37
We have mentioned all of the great advantages of living inPhoenix apartments near light rail, but what do you do when it’s a hot day and
you really don’t feel like walking to the light rail station, or you have had a
long day and walking back to your apartment or to the light rail station just
seems like a hassle?
A number of bicycle manufacturers have already figured this out for you. Just like the automobile industry, a number of bicycle companies have hopped on the electric bicycle market and they are producing a wide variety of bikes to choose from that give you the choice of getting a little exercise, sitting back and letting the bike do all of the work or anything between.
Imagine pedaling your bike at a rate that would normally be going 5 miles per hour, but zooming along at 15-20 miles per hour? Sounds to good to be true, but with the trend toward being more green, bike manufacturers are looking for more and more ways to make commuting by bicycle more attractive.
You may be thinking to yourself that it sounds great, but it’s too expensive, however as competition grows, the price of these bicycles is falling every day and now you can get an entry level electric bicycle for only a few hundred dollars. The main difference between higher end models and lower end models is the capacity of the battery. Lower end models will get you roughly 25 miles with minimum pedaling, this may not sound like much, however when you consider this as a method of getting to and from light rail stations and your apartment, this is more than enough for your average Phoenix apartment resident to get anywhere in the Greater Phoenix area on a charge. The other important thing to remember is that unlike an electric car, if the battery runs out you still have a fully functioning bicycle to get around with.
At the higher end, you have everything from hybrid bicycles by Giant and Schwinn that offer ranges of 40 miles or more and faster rapid charging. Any of these bicycles from the lower end all of the way up can be plugged in while you are at work and they will be fully recharged by lunchtime and you can top it off by plugging it back in after lunch.
Getting greener and saving money is getting easier every day. Imagine just hopping on your electric bike and getting from your apartment to the phoenix light rail in a couple of minutes. No battling traffic, no expensive gasoline and a little more time for yourself each morning.
