Phoenix Share the Ride
Friday, December 11 2009 13:57
It seems like every day it gets easier for residents in Phoenix apartments to shed their car. With the state of the current economy, a number of our residents have been leaving their apartments for the day on foot or by bike. There are many great incentives such as cutting fuel costs, getting a little extra excercise or doing your part for the environment.
But what do you do when the weather is horrible, you have a little too much stuff to carry from the apartments to the phoenix light rail, or you just need to get a little further than your bike or legs will take you?
Valley Metro offers a great service designed to bring ride shares together called Share the Ride. phoenix share the ride is a free service provided by Valley Metro that uses a proximity search feature to help find drivers and riders that are headed from nearby locations to nearby destinations. The system takes into account not only the destination, but the travel route and the ride share’s schedule requirements. This service is another great tool for residents of Phoenix apartments looking to reduce their reliance on cars and explore alternative means of transportation. Who knows you might even meet an interesting person, but like any other situation where you are meeting someone from the internet, use caution and common sense.Valley Metro’s suggestion is to try the service out one day a week to see how it works. This sounds like a great way to introduce people to alternative transportation options and attempt to reduce traffic in Phoenix.
