In any American city, Chinese food is a mainstay for delivery, pick-up & dining-in orders. What’s not to love about something that is quick, cheap, delicious & served with a smile? With a population of over 175,000, Tempe is certainly no exception. Chinese cuisine takes seemingly ordinary food staples and transforms them into extraordinary dishes, with local restaurants feeding Arizona State University students and all of the locals’ insatiable appetites for Chinese food. This article aims to highlight the select few of Tempe Chinese restaurants that go above & beyond the rest.
Tott’s Asian Diner, located on East Guadalupe Road, is one of the very best Chinese restaurants in the city. Known for its great service and extremely amiable manager, Tott’s Asian Diner serves delicious Chinese favorites for extremely reasonable prices. The favorite among the locals seems to be their ‘Grilled Bourbon Chicken.’ Some of the other chef’s specials include walnut shrimp, Asian fried sole and orange chicken. While most of the entrees hover around $7.50, Tott’s does not have a single entree over $10.
Golden Buddha, located on North 44th Street, is another great Chinese restaurant in Tempe. With locations in other parts of the country dating back to Atlanta in 1973, Golden Buddha has a tried and tested business model that focuses on great, consistent food coupled with personable service. While a little bit more expensive than Tott’s, Golden Buddha is bolder with their menu items and has a lot more variety. With exotic dishes such as their ‘Shredded Chicken and Shark Fin Soup’ or ‘Jellyfish Marinated in Vinegar,’ it’s easy to see that Golden Buddha attempts to establish itself as a separate entity from the traditional Chinese restaurants in America. The restaurant dons an outdoor patio, spacious dining room & fully-stocked bar.
If you have been to a handful of different Chinese restaurants throughout your life, you can understand how some of the Chinese restaurants you’ve been to have had only mediocre food. You may have enjoyed one or two of their dishes but found the food to be generally sub-par. Some Chinese restaurants, while you may have gotten the exact same dish with the exact same ingredients, are simply that much better. Tott’s Asian Diner and Golden Buddha are two of those, Tempe Chinese restaurants that consistently produce great food and are light-years ahead of their competition.
