Tempe Japanese Restaurants

There is no way to escape it – Tempe has a lot of Asian influence all around the city. So the amount of Japanese restaurants and sushi bars in Tempe should come as no surprise.  One of the great parts about having an apartment near Arizona State is access to all of these great Japanese dining spots.

Authentic Japanese dishes, sushi rolls of every flavor and variety, and all the sake you can handle can be had at a handful of wonderful Tempe Japanese restaurants. Whether you are looking for a California roll and an exotic Japanese beer or specially-prepared squid, there is a dining establishment in Tempe that has exactly what you are looking for. This article will recommend the very best of those establishments.

The first thing that has to be mentioned when talking about Japanese cuisine in Tempe is the Fujiya Market. While not technically a restaurant, this Japanese market does serve sushi, bento boxes and other ready-made meals that you can take out and enjoy outside the market or in the comfort of your apartment. Many people say this is the absolute best place in all of Arizona to get any Japanese-related food item you could imagine. All of the different Japanese beers, candy, soft drinks, sauces, and other food items you can think of will make you believe you’ve momentarily stepped into Tokyo. The sushi, made daily every afternoon, is known to be some of the best in the entire city. Numerous people make the trek to Fujiya Market all the way from Scottsdale, Phoenix and other surrounding areas.

The second recommendation has to be the Sushi 101 Japanese Restaurant. Located conveniently on East University Drive, this Tempe Japanese restaurant has over 120 different types of sashimi, nigiri & sushi rolls. They offer happy hour specials on certain sushi rolls, appetizers & beers every day of the week from 4 to 7 P.M. Sushi 101, having been rated Tempe’s Best Sushi every year since 2001 by various publications, is also well-priced, with most of the rolls being around $7 apiece. If you’re ever in Tempe and looking for an affordable sushi bar with a good crowd, this is certainly your place.

Japanese restaurants and sushi bars, especially in the more popular areas of Tempe, seem to dot every single street. A lot of them try to be chic with their decor, allowing them to charge a premium on their Japanese cuisine.  But the truth is, if you visit the two places described above, you’ll have some of the best Japanese food of your life and won’t be broke trying to do it, either.
